This sweet bread is one of my favorites because the molasses makes it very dark and fudgy. Having a piece makes me feel as if I’m sitting by a crackling fireplace on a wintry day in a gingerbread house.

Ingredients

Dry:

1 ½ cups white whole wheat flour

½ cup all purpose flour

1 cup cornmeal

1 tsp baking soda

Wet:

1 cup raisins

2 TBS brown sugar

¾ cup molasses

1 cup milk

1 cup plain yogurt

¼ cup canola oil

Instructions

Mix all dry ingredients.

Add wet ingredients and raisins and mix well.

Spray a rectangle glass container with oil, pour batter into the container, and cover it with foil.

Pour 2 ½ cups of boiling water into the slow cooker.

Place the bowl in the slow cooker and steam for 3 hours on high heat.
